Our Imaginary Kids began as a joke amongst friends – good-natured ribbing between friends with children and friends without children. We took it to the next level when we began sharing stories about our imaginary kids` likes and dislikes, and their social habits. We even threatened to post pictures on Facebook, as so many with Real World children do. The little stories had no real significance other than to make friends laugh.
There is a real-world seriousness with Our Imaginary Kids, however. Millions of people around the world are unable to have children. For most, the remedy is months of doctor’s visits and tens of thousands of dollars in medical bills – most of which are not covered by insurance. If the medical route is unsuccessful, the only course is adoption. Again, this can cost months of time and tens of thousands of dollars.
Our Imaginary Kids has turned into a way to promote these concerns and others. It`s a fun release for the sadness we know others experience. So, laugh a lot, learn a little and keep in prayer the families around the world that can only experience the joys of parenthood through the lives of others or through Our Imaginary Kids.
